Senior Materials Engineer

As a Senior Materials Engineer, you will be the design authority for GPG (Global Product Group) Breakers engineering projects in GPG Breakers & Enclosures Electrification Smart Power in Senatobia, Mississippi, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service. In this role you will be in charge to provide technical support to localization initiatives of thermoset, thermoplastic and metals.

Engineering Manager III
Your responsibilities

• You will assist in the development, design and execution of material performance evaluation and improvement programs
• You will support cross functional initiatives and serve as the technical point of contact for various suppliers and R&D (Research & Development) design centers
• Create a project specific quality control/assurance program and oversee materials compliance with project specifications and international codes
• Assist with the implementation of R&D, localization and business initiatives, programs and proposals
• Maintain appropriate documentation files of all materials related information, including specifications, certifications, test plans, etc
• Help determine the nature of technical problems and possible solutions, such as material redesign or substitution of raw materials that meet all requirements
• Work with internal and external testing labs to verify material and product performance using existing test methods and develop new test methods as needed. Organize and analyze test data into a meaningful format to drive material-related decision making
• Work with our manufacturing teams to trial new materials and new processes. Work with the sourcing team in support of global procurement strategies Your background
  • Bachelors of Science on Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree and minimum 5 years of experience on industry
  • Proficiency on steel and conductive alloys selection, which includes coating and finishing
  • Experience on metals and plastic manufacturing processes
  • Extensive experience on thermoplastic and thermoset resins selection
  • Experience on selection and evaluation of potential suppliers
  • Experience on technical regulations such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories), CSA (Customer Support Agreement), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), CCC (The China Compulsory Certificate), etc
  • Strong projects management and communication skills
  • Knowledge on plastic molding and tooling design, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work at multicultural/cross-functional teams, these teams include, but are not limited to product engineering, manufacturing engineering, procurement, sourcing, R&D and design centers
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Desirable communication skills at Spanish and/or Italian
