Overview Open & closing dates Opening and closing dates05/27/2020 to 09/30/2020 Service Competitive Pay scale & grade VM 15 Salary $220,000 to $282,480 per year Appointment type Permanent Work schedule Full-Time Duties SummaryThe Neurology Staff Physician provides clinical skills for the Neurology Service to ensure achievement of clinical goals and applicable performance measures. The physician is accountable for the professional delivery and thorough documentation of treatment to adult patients in inpatient settings and outpatient clinics as well as comprehensive examinations and histories to patients assigned to him/her in the C&P Neurology Clinic.Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited too:-- Provide direct patient care in inpatient setting ---- Observe patient responses, testing procedures, use of equipment and review of patient records -- Thoroughly document examinations and histories using appropriate programs and forms-- Provide education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding neurological disorders and their treatments-- Provide education, supervision, and mentoring to Medical students, residents, and fellows in neurological disorders and their treatments -- Participate in inpatient, outpatient subspecialty duties as assigned by the Chief of Neurology, including on-call assignmentsWork Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm)Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Travel RequiredNot required Supervisory status No Promotion Potential 15 Requirements Conditions of EmploymentU.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Designated and/or random drug testing requiredSelective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959You may be required to serve a probationary periodSubject to a background/security investigationMust be proficient in written and spoken EnglishSelected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding processMust pass pre-employment physical examination Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.Basic Requirements:United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.Proficiency in spoken and written English.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience:This request is for a full-time Board-Certified Neurologist who will treat adult patients in in-patient settings and out-patient clinics at the Memphis VA Medical Center and its affiliated academic institution, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The position will include opportunities for research; teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; participation in general and sub-specialty neurology clinics, inpatient consultations, attending duties and on-call expertise; and a faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center at a rank appropriate to experience. The successful candidate will have academic credentials and demonstrated skills in teaching skills medical students, residents, and neurology residents and/or fellows, such that he/she will qualify for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor appointment at the University of Tennessee Health Science. The candidate must be board certified in neurology (AAN) or have just completed residency and board-eligible and have demonstrated leadership skills to execute clinical and administrative duties of a neurologist within a multi-faceted clinical team. Other neurologists in the practice group have sub-specialty expertise in dementia, stroke, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, headache, chemodenervation, and ALSReference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
