With resources to help you succeed and develop your career, we also offer generous relocation assistance.The Chemical Biology & Therapeutics Department at St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a talented Medicinal Chemist. We are seeking a highly motivated and productive medicinal chemist to synthesize biologically active target molecules and chemical libraries for early-stage and lead optimization projects. The primary responsibilities include scientific activities in the laboratory associated with the design, synthesis, purification and characterization of novel compounds and chemical probes. The scientist will also validate synthetic routes and carry out chemical library production. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of organic chemistry and show competence in multi-step synthesis, troubleshooting and optimization of synthetic methods. This person will have the opportunity to develop project leadership skills by defining the chemistry strategy and interacting cross-functionally to drive scientific decisions and progress projects.

• Independently designs, troubleshoots and executes on synthetic routes
• Performs the purification and characterization of targets using modern chromatographic and analytical techniques, including flash chromatography, TLC, HPLC, LCMS and NMR
• Conducts the validation and execution of organic reactions for parallel library synthesis and purification
• Maintains a high level of productivity in the laboratory
• Generates new molecular targets by interpreting biological data and utilizing structure-based drug design
• Accurately documents experiments in electronic laboratory notebook
• Maintains high level of scientific integrity and laboratory safety
• Presents results in internal and external meetings and actively contributes to writing and publication of manuscripts/grants
• Works collaboratively across functions
  
  Bachelor's degree in appropriate scientific field is required.
  
  Sr. Research Technologist
  
  • 
    
  • A minimum of three (3) years total work experience as a SJCRH Research Technologist or three (3) years relevant post-degree experience in a similar research environment is required with a Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years total work experience as a SJCRH Research Technologist or two (2) years relevant post-degree experience in a similar research environment is required with a Master's degree.
  • No experience is required with a PhD in a related field.
    
    Research Lab Specialist
    
    • 
      
    • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant post-degree work experience, with at least five (5) years at the Sr. Research Tech level, is required with a Bachelor's degree
    • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience, with at least (5) years at the Sr. Research Tech level, is required with a Master's degree
    • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience including post-doctoral and/or technical staff experience is required with a Ph.D
