JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs face to face and telephonic interpretation from English to Spanish and Spanish to English for patients, patient families and hospital staff. Acts as a liaison between patient, patient families, and hospital staff to interpret and communicate information accurately and completely without adding omitting or changing the meaning of the message; promotes an understanding of procedures, policies, and other issues related to patient care. JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred. EXPERIENCE: One (1)-two (2) years' experience as a medical interpreter. Must be fluent in Spanish & English. Experience in healthcare interpreting and medical terminology preferred. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: Completion of Healthcare Interpreter Program Certificate Level I strongly desired / or obtain certificate within two (2) years of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: t Must successfully complete Regional One Health's training program which includes medical terminology, knowledge of hospital policies and procedures; and customer service responsiveness. t Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for an Interpreter, Guest Services t Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully t Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations t Ability to respond promptly to customer needs, requests for service and assistance t Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and obtain clarification, and respond well to questions t Ability to write clearly and informatively, edit work for spelling and grammar, and able to read and translate written information t Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness to follow policies and procedures, completes administrative tasks correctly and on time t Ability to approach others in a tactful manner, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position t Ability to follow instructions, responds to management directions, and keeps commitments. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged walking and standing with ability to visit various areas throughout the hospital on a daily basis.
