Physician Assistant Program Director (Non-Tenure Track)

Physician Assistant Program Director (Non-Tenure Track) The Program Director is responsible for the administration and accreditation of the program and supports the Dean of the School of Sciences, as well as other administrators of the university, and the University. The Program Director will provide effective leadership and management through careful attention to issues related to personnel, program, institutional processes, and application of resources through discussions with administrators, faculty, preceptors, and students. The Program Director will chair the Faculty Executive Committee and participate in other committees as needed. At least 80% of the Program Directors time will be devoted to academic and administrative responsibilities in support of the program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supporting the Dean of the School of Sciences, other administrators of the university, and the University

• Effective leadership and management

• Monitoring, overseeing, mentoring, supervising, and delegating effectively, as appropriate

• Adhering to the ARC-PA standards and policies and following their directions and guidelines

• Supervising the medical director, principle and instructional faculty in all activities that directly relate to the PA program

• Reviewing of job descriptions and organizational charts

• Having discussions with administrators, faculty, and staff; as well as the other directors of the program

• The organization, administration, fiscal management, ongoing review and assessment, planning, and development of the PA program

• Teaching in the didactic and clinical phases of the program in areas of expertise as time allows

• Assisting with grading of patient assessment and clinical skills OSCEs, and other grading as necessary

• Leading program development and planning to include curriculum design, development, implementation, coordination, maintenance, review, assessment, and revision; review of the PA program mission and vision statements, goals, and outcomes; gathering, documenting, and analysis of data; preparing of reports and assessment plans; development, implementation, effectiveness, and compliance with PA program and University policies and procedures; remediation and proactive intervention; clinical site procurement and student placement

• Participating in the accreditation process

• Developing and maintaining professional relationships with persons, offices, departments, facilities, and organizations both on and off campus

• Maintaining and securing student records

• Monitoring academic progress of students subject to probation, remediation, or dismissal

• Overseeing fiscal, human, operational, administrative, curricular, and physical needs of the program

• Providing academic and fiscal recommendations to the Dean and VP of Academic

• Participating in the continuous program assessment process to include discussions and actions related to program compliance with accreditation standards

• Recruiting of and supporting the retention of PA program faculty (principle, full-time, part-time, and adjunct) and staff while maintaining an appropriate balance of academic specializations

• Supervising and evaluating all PA program faculty and staff

• Encouraging faculty, staff, and professional development

• Including principle faculty and staff appropriately in program decisions

• Being available to answer questions from faculty and staff

• Overseeing the recruitment, orientation, and academic progress of all PA program students

• Participating in other aspects of program management and university strategic planning as directed by the dean and other university administrators

• Maintaining current CV

• Maintaining NCCPA certification

• Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee

• Attend Chair/Program Director meetings

• Attending program, school and university meetings and assemblies as required or necessary

• Supporting the PA program both on and off campus

• Representing the program at professional functions and events

• Representing the program as an ex officio member of the PA Program Advisory Board

• Professional development

• Service to the program, school, university and/or community

• Attending graduation activities and events

• Completion and submission of surveys and ballots related to the program and university, as requested

• Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Sciences, VP or Academics, or University, based on qualifications

Requirements

• Minimum of a physician assistant degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience

• NCCPA certified

• Experience with accreditation (preferably ARC-PA)

• Ability to analyze and proactively problem solve

• Excellent people and organizational skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to multitask

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Applicant must be willing to travel and have a valid driver's license

• Ability to be an effective educator (a teaching demonstration will be required)

• Successful official on-campus interview

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• Represent the PA program in a professional manner

• Commitment to student success

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate

• Tennessee-licensed PA

• Minimum of 2 years clinical experience

• Minimum of 2 years of teaching in a PA Program or other related higher education health-related program

• Experience in administration or prior experience as a PA Program Director

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher)

• Experience with Office 365 and Outlook

• Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (E-Medley)

• Working knowledge of Student Management Systems (Banner)
