Summary This position is located in the Prosthetic Treatment Center (PTC) which provides all Prosthetic, Orthotic, and Sensory Aids for inpatients of the Memphis VAMC, outpatients in a tri-state area encompassing 51 counties. The major purpose of this position is to provide administrative support for the PTC. The incumbent performs office work essential to the functioning of the Service. Responsibilities Major Duties: Performs a wide variety of administrative and/or clerical tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work performed within the Prosthetic Service. Use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents that often require complex formats, such as graphics, tables or spreadsheets. Communicate with a wide variety of contacts; patients, families, staff including members of the health care team, both within the local facility and at external facilities, vendors and other supply personnel. Provide patients and vendors with customer service. Identify needs, gather, organize, and maintain information. Listen effectively and clarify information as needed. Knowledge of federal laws and regulations pertaining to procurement and provision of prosthetic items and services. Identify and analyze problems, use sound reasoning and find alternative solutions. Organize work, establish priorities, meet deadlines and complete detailed tasks in an accurate and timely manner. Interpret and apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/17/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: telephone and receptionist duties, including ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers; organizing and coordinating work to meet deadlines; ability to gather, organize and maintain information; composing and replying to written correspondence; working knowledge of the functions of departments/services within an organization; using various computer software applications; and, prioritizing simultaneous tasks. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Interpersonal SkillsOrganizational Awareness Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work is mostly dexterity, requiring normal physical dexterity, with walking, bending, stooping, and lifting required. Also requires pushing a cart with medical records to be delivered to the proper destination.
