Job Description:
* Safety: The Quality Technician is responsible for the safety
of themself, will follow all safety rules, and wear all required
PPE.
* General Duties:
* Major Problems - The main objective of the Quality Technician is
to move from machine to machine to inspect in-process work and
prevent small Quality Problems from building into major problems.
The more rapidly a quality technician can get around to each
machine the better. A production audit sheet complete with
inspection schedule is give guidance to timely inspecting from
machine to machine.
* Stop Machine - The Quality Technician will notify the Operator
and Department Manager to halt the machine when quality problems
exist.
* Technical Issues - The Quality Technician must continually learn
about technical issues that cause quality problems and know how to
identify these problems.
* Production Audit Sheet - The Quality Technician must fill out the
production audit sheet. This sheet has a bare minimum time schedule
that you must follow. If the times on the schedule cannot be met, a
note showing what other duties being performed must be written. All
problems with the order audited no matter how small must be noted
also.
* Job Jackets - The Quality Technician will be involved in
investigation of discrepancies or misunderstandings in work
instructions (case pack, wrong labels etc.) in all departments.
* QMS Sheets - Quality Technicians are required to keep up with QMS
sheets, review them, and report when sheets are not being filled
out completely. Tallying the reported QMS incidents will be
completed monthly on the tally sheets for each applicable
department.
* Sorting and Rework - When quality issues are identified, Quality
Technicians will use their expertise to determine the cause of the
problem. The technician will understand the pattern at which the
problem appears to determine the fastest way to remove the
nonconforming cartons. Technicians will be leaders in sorting and
rework efforts when the problem requires additional personnel.
* Overtime - Sometimes overtime may be required with major sorting
projects or when color standards pile up. Overtime will also be
required to cover for other technicians that are on vacation when
needed. Saturday work may be required when more than one machine is
running.
* Decisions - Technicians will be required to make small decisions
as to what is good or bad. Big decisions that can cause a lot of
waste must be made by the Quality Manager, Plant Manager or
Department Manager. Large amounts of nonconforming material must be
placed in the nonconforming area for a final decision. Marginal
problems should be set aside to run last where the marginal cartons
may be scrapped if there is enough for the order (Management
Decision).
* Know the Customers - Each customer has different specifications
or expectations to meet. Cartons are made from different papers,
inks, etc. Graphic Packaging International has a broad mix of work
from pharmaceutical grade, high quality SBS to drink trays made
from tan bending chip. Investigate and ask questions to find out
about the customer's needs. The bottom line is keeping the customer
satisfied.
* The Quality Technician will fill in catching on a machine when
someone is out.
* Job Jackets - The Technician may be asked to close out job
jackets by gathering the samples for each job complete, making a
list of the completed jobs, and turning them into the Customer
Advocate office.
* These responsibilities are subject to change. The Quality Manager
may add any other responsibilities. Technicians are subject for
performance review at any time.
III. Education and Knowledge:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
IV . Specific Skills:
* Required to go from inside heated/cooled areas to
non-heated/cooled areas to obtain raw materials or quality
checks.
* Must be able to read and interpret job information.
* Must not be color blind.
* Schedule Demands:
Shifts: Follows mode schedule for plant, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm., 3:00
pm to 11:00 pm and 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Expected to cover vacancy
for absent peers and work overtime.
* Physical Demands:
* Work involves moving or lifting of equipment, materials, and
tools. Must be able lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
* Climbing catwalks, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or
movement within confined areas.
* Work in buildings and areas of fluctuating temperature and
weather.
* Standing for extended periods.
* Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
