Overview Open & closing dates 06/18/2019 to 06/26/2019 Service Competitive Pay scale & grade GS 9 Salary $51,440 to $66,868 per year Appointment type Permanent Work schedule Full-Time Location 1 vacancy in the following location: Memphis, TN Relocation expenses reimbursed No Telework eligible No Duties Summary About the Position: This position serves as a Public Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, Memphis District, Public Affairs Office, responsible for the content, accuracy, format and distribution of informational products for public dissemination (inter)nationally, regionally and locally. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Researches, writes, staffs and publishes appropriate information products for a variety of audiences; captures and edits supporting photos/video; creates and maintains contact lists; designs and produces multimedia products and brochures. Assists in handling press queries, press visits and distribution of approved media releases. Prepares replies to requests from community groups/individuals for general information about USACE Memphis and the Memphis District events. Assists in gathering articles and other content for the website and social media platforms from a variety of sources, including submissions from the Department of Defense, Headquarters Army, Office of the Chief of Public Affairs. Reviews articles for compliance with professional journalistic standards and command directives. s prepare responses to inquiries from DoD, DA staff, USACE, local, state and national media/public outreach about Memphis District. Performs other duties as assigned. Travel Required Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Developing and disseminating oral and written information to the public and staff through mass media; writing, editing and/or designing informational products; and assisting with the execution of public affairs activities for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and Media Multimedia Technologies Public Affairs Policies and Procedures Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
