Job Description:
This role independently performs volunteer apheresis procedures
and whole blood collections to support St. Jude patient care and
research. This role applies advanced technical expertise to
recruit, interview, screen, and process donors while ensuring
accurate performance, validation, and reporting of waived
laboratory testing used to determine donor eligibility. The
position ensures full compliance with institutional policies,
regulatory requirements, and the Blood Donor Center Quality
Program, while contributing to quality improvement initiatives and
translational /basic research activities. Position will work M-F 8
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May work an occasional Saturday or holiday.
Shifts can rotate; Shifts can start at 7:30 am-4 pm or 9:30 am-6
pm. The ideal candidate will have: Experience with apheresis or
plasmapheresis machines Experience in a blood donor center or
plasma center Job Responsibilities: Collaborate with internal/
external teams to coordinate and execute assigned tasks (e.g.,
processing, evaluation, and management; lab workflow planning and
execution; material request processing). Monitor, maintain,
retrieve, track inventory within area. Oversee accurate and timely
documentation (e.g., medical records, process logs). Troubleshoot
issues with procedures and drive implementation, documentation, and
compliance of corrective action. Conduct ongoing quality control
and compliance tracking and related activities, and
resolve/escalate problems as required. Support ongoing inventory
maintenance including receipt and storage of supplies. Guide early
career team members on standard tasks within area. Recruit, screen,
and process volunteer donors for apheresis and whole blood
collections, applying advanced knowledge of donor eligibility
criteria and regulatory requirements. Independently perform
apheresis procedures and whole blood collections, ensuring donor
safety, continuity of care, and product quality. Administer and
support the Blood Donor Center Quality Control and Quality Program
in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
Contribute advanced technical expertise to translational and basic
research and development initiatives. Evaluate, validate, and
support implementation of new procedures, equipment, and
maintenance processes; assist with SOP and documentation
maintenance. Orient, train, and mentor staff, supporting
onboarding, competency development, inventory readiness, and
operational continuity. Perform other related duties as assigned or
directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the
institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum
Education and/or Training: High School Diploma required.
Associate's Degree preferred. Minimum Experience: High School
Diploma with 6 years of experience in a volunteer or commercial
blood donor center (OR) Associate's degree with 4 years of
experience in a volunteer or commercial blood donor center. 6 years
of phlebotomy experience required with a High School Diploma or 4
years of phlebotomy experience with an Associate's Degree. 2 years
of volunteer donor whole blood collection or donor apheresis
experience required. Substantial experience in relevant laboratory
procedures and principles (e.g., cleaning and sterilization of
laboratory materials; laboratory assistance; equipment operation
and maintenance; logistics planning and coordination). Substantial
experience working with laboratory personnel, understanding and
supporting complex lab needs (e.g., calibration, materials prep)
with guidance preferred. Experience in providing necessary
assistance during crisis/emergency situations preferred. Proven
performance in earlier role/ comparable role. Licensure,
Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
Phlebotomy Certification required. Medical Assistant certification
is acceptable instead of phlebotomy certification. CPR
certification required within 6 months of hire. Compensation In
recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency
laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the
compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in
good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors
that are considered in making compensation decisions including but
not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and
certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is
not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the
salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts
and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the
current salary range is $24.00 - $42.00 per hour for the role of
