Job Summary:  Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the Mid-South Food Bank’s financial policy and direction while partnering with the Board and staff to execute the organization’s overall strategy. S/he will lead all financial administration, business planning and budgeting. The CFO will work closely with the finance committee of the Board of Directors. The CFO will lead the Mid-South Food Bank’s finance, human resources (HR), and information technology (IT).

Specific responsibilities include:

Partner with the CEO, COO, & CDO on all operational and strategic issues; provide recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation and revenue/expense analysis.

Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process.

Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management.

Engage the Chief Development Officer to align financial management with short- and long-term goals, financial planning and projections.

Engage the finance committee around issues, trends and changes in the operating model.

Financial and Operational Management

Lead the budgeting process and oversee the implementation of budgets, both operational and capital expenditure.

Present operational metrics both internally and externally.

Ensure that finance staff and database manager maintain financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitor the use of all funds.

Prepare and communicate quarterly and annual financial statements for senior leadership, finance committee and Board of Directors.

Oversee and evaluate all inventory management in Ceres, including all USDA, donated and purchased food; including periodic preparation of funding available for food and other grant purchases.

Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, donor database and departmental accounting.

Coordinate all audit activities and form 990s for Mid-South Food Bank and its subsidiary company -Feeding The Need.

Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations.

Oversee and monitor the financial reporting and metrics for grantees on a quarterly basis.

Recommend improvements to the systems in place for finance, HR and IT and manage the systems going forward.

Team Management

Develop and manage direct staff

Engage other members of the team to facilitate collaboration that ensures that all financial, IT, and HR solutions positively support Mid-South Food Bank’s evolving strategy.

Qualifications:

The CFO will be a leader with at least 10 years of broad finance experience, including gathering and evaluating finances and making recommendations to senior leadership. S/he will have ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), HR, and IT for a mid-size nonprofit (minimum budget of $4MM).

The CFO will have the following experience and attributes:

A minimum of a BS and CPA/CMA; MBA a plus.

Evidence of being a proactive partner to the chief executive. If coming from the for-profit world, nonprofit board experience preferred.

Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.

Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, and technology policies and procedures.

Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.

A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.

A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.

Strong commitment to developing team members.

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Community Relations Manager Reports To : Director of Corporate & Community Engagement Positions Supervised : None Status: Full-Time FLSA: Non-Exempt Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, flex hours as needed

Job Summary: Community Relations plans and coordinates Mid-South Food Bank fundraising and awareness events, including food & funds drives, third-party/cause related events.

Responsibilities:  Develop and maintain a strong community relations program to raise food, secure new and increased financial support, and raise community awareness about food insecurity and hunger. Cultivate new and existing corporate, organization and individual donor relationships to meet goals.

Develop and maintain a pro-active food and funds drive program, focused on Food Bank-driven events and events sponsored by others that benefit the Food Bank (cause related).

Plan and coordinate appropriate fundraising events including procuring sponsors to cover event costs and/or in-kind donations for necessary services.

Evaluate the viability and appropriateness of third-party cause marketing events that are offered to the Food Bank and ensure those events adhere to Food Bank guidelines on cause-related activities, including a clear understanding of expectations for each party and projected food and/or funds to be raised.

Serve as the primary liaison to businesses and organizations that have the ability to benefit the Food Bank via in-kind donations or special events, particularly Food Bank events: Kids Kan, Operation Feed, Student Food Drive.

Maintain an accurate calendar and records of food and funds raised by events.

Work with Transportation to ensure food collected at food drives and off-site locations is picked up in a timely manner, being mindful of the demands on transportation services. Seek partnerships with local carriers and partner agencies for assistance with food collection.

Oversee and expands the grocery scan card program, ensuring stores have supplies and tracking funds.

Represent the Food Bank at speaking opportunities and Food Bank tours.

Maintain working relationships that ensure the success of Food Bank programs. This includes positive interpersonal relationships with community representatives, volunteers, Food Bank management and staff.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent; at least one year’s community relations/special event experience

Knowledge of and some proficiency in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

Ability to conceive, plan, implement and manage fundraising events and programs

Ability to maintain organized and detailed records on community projects

Ability to work and interact well with community representatives, volunteers and Food Bank staff

Proficiency in basic database management (Excel)

Strong communications skills. Excellent oral and written skills.

Ability to work off site with minimum supervision

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Truck Driver Reports To: Transportation Manager Positions Supervised: None FLSA : Non-exempt Hours:  7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Mon –Fri, other hours as needed

Job Summary:  Safely operate Mid-South Food Bank vehicles. Safely load, transport, and unload or assist in unloading food and related product. Maintain working relationships with food donor representatives.

Responsibilities:

Operate Mid-South Food Bank vehicles to pick up and deliver products. Ensure truck is properly loaded, secured and within weight limits.

Inspect and verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers

Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working order and report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles

Follow a schedule of pick-up and delivery; maintain record of pick-up and delivery activities, as well as other records such as mileage, logs, and equipment.

Report delays, accidents or other traffic and transportation situations to supervisor using mobile telephones

Maintain records such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements in accordance with regulations

Assist in receipting donated product

Load and unload trucks by hand, pallet jack, or forklift; or assist in loading and unloading of special or large quantities of product.

Accurately pull order for pickup and delivery

Provide assistance as needed to maintain orderly and clean work area in compliance with Mid-South Food Bank’s safety and sanitation policies; ensure that the warehouse facility meets the Feeding America and Memphis and Shelby County Health Department guidelines by assisting in daily cleaning as well as the maintenance of the outside perimeters

Maintain working relationships that ensure the success of Mid-South Food Bank programs. This includes maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with donors, volunteers, agency representatives, Food Bank management and staff

Comply with specialized regulations, such as US Department of Transportation regulations.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; commercial drivers license (CDL) required

Two years experience driving a truck in all weather conditions.

Good verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated attention to detail, knowledge of good record keeping procedures and the ability to maintain accurate and legible records and current files

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to read maps, speak clearly over phones and radios and follow written and verbal geographic directions

Ability to operate a forklift and a manual or powered pallet jack, forklift certification a plus

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds

Ability to successfully complete a Safe Food Handling Course

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with donors, volunteers, agencies and other Food Bank staff

Acceptance of philosophy of food banking

Working Conditions:

Depending on the route the driver may operate the vehicle in moving freeway traffic or through congested surface streets. Work is performed in weather that may make driving hazardous.

The driver may be exposed to other hazardous conditions, such as doing field repairs, climbing and descending from a high truck, etc.

The driver’s back, legs, arms and hands have increased exposure to stress due to extended sitting for long times and vehicle vibrations. The driver’s eyes have increased exposure to stress due to driving when there is inadequate illumination or in direct sunlight. The driver is exposed to exhaust fumes when standing near a running vehicle.

May push and pull pallets up to 2,000 pounds while operating pallet jack. May lift, move and carry objects up to 75 pounds.

Reports To:  Senior Warehouse Manager Positions Supervised : None Status : Full-Time FLSA : Non-Exempt Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday

Job Summary:

Serves as primary representative in the agency mart area. Assists agencies with checkout, information, and other customer service functions during regular shopping hours. Instructs volunteers on their duties and oversees entire shopping process.

Responsibilities:

Working in our Agency Mart, which is the first point of contact for our Partner Agencies when they pick up their orders.

Coordinate agency orders including agency order pick up, data entry, generate invoices, and print delivery tickets to update invoices, accept payments from agency representatives, post and close out daily invoices, and report any discrepancies to Agency Relations Manager.

Greet and sign in agency reps and oversee the proper distribution of products, ensuring that agencies adhere to all Food Banks policies and procedures. Offer additional products to increase pounds.

Supervise senior aides and volunteers. Prepare and submit senior aides’ time sheets to Agency Relations Manager.

Maintain a safe, clean environment, ensuring the Agency Mart facility meets Feeding America and Memphis/Shelby County Health Department guidelines.

Keep the Agency Mart well stocked. Track close-dated items for appropriate distribution to agencies in a timely manner.

Identify agency shopping trends and make recommendations to management. Work with agency relations to promote products to agencies.

Ensure that refrigeration and freezer equipment are operating properly. Report maintenance needs.

Maintain working relationships that promote Food Bank programs. This includes maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with agency representatives, Food Bank management, and staff.

Open and Close Agency Mart daily.

Responsible for Temps Logs, Sanitation logs, and Cleaning logs.

Responsible for reporting Dump Pounds in Ceres.

Complete agency inspections one day each week as assigned by Agency Relations Manager

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

At least two years of college or a minimum of four years retail experience

Ability to guide senior aide staff and volunteers to ensure they are working efficiently.

Ability to successfully complete Safe Food Handling certification.

Computer skills and the ability to work efficiently with an inventory control system.

Ability and willingness to travel within Mid-South Food Bank’s service area and must have a valid Driver’s License.

Ability to maintain accurate and legible records.

Ability to communicate clearly and write legibly.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to work in a diverse environment.

Previous forklift and pallet jack experience a plus.

Acceptance of philosophy of food banking.
